Different types of materials and their working properties. (polymers) Flashcards
What is thermoforming?
when heated and cooled it can be reheated and put into and different shape.
What is thermosetting?
When heated and cooled it can not be reheated
What is acrylic?
tough, easily finished, and easily cleaned, food safe, and can be easily scratched
used for: shop signs, rear car lights, baths, fish tanks, and menu holders
What are HIPS?
lightweight, high stiffness, impact resistant but can be easily scratched
used for: toys, televisions parts and refrigerator lineings
What are the properties and uses Biopeol?
lightweight, good electrical insulator, degrades over time when in contact with soil, so can safely be disposed of at landfill sites.
used for: disposable cups, razors, cutlery nd other packaging products, surgical stitches, and pins.
What is polyester resin?
Rigid, brittle, heat insulation and good chemical resistance
used for: Boat hulls and sports car bodies, normally formed in conjunction with glass fiber.
What is urea formaldehyde?
rigid, hard, brittle, heat resistant, excellent electrical insulation.
used for: electrical fittings, plugs, sockets, and switches, used as an adhesive in manmade boards
