Different kinds of cell Flashcards
1
Q
Specialized cells
A
Some cells are specialized for different function (e.g bacteria)
2
Q
Bacterial cells
A
They do not have a nucleus (this is called prokaryotic)
3
Q
Specialized cells: egg cell
A
- Contains nutrients in the cytoplasm to supply the growing embryo
- Has a haploid nucleus that can fuse with another haploid nucleus to form a diploid zygote
- After fertilization, the membrane changes so that no more sperm cells can enter
4
Q
Specialized cell: Sperm cell
A
- Has a tail for swimming to the egg cell for fertilization.
- Many mitochondria around the base of the tail release the energy needed to propel the cell
- Has haploid tissue that fuses with the egg nucleus to form a zygote
- The across me contains digestive enzymes to help penetrate the membrane of the egg
5
Q
Specialized cell: Ciliated cell
A
- Move things along the tube such as mucus
- Has a lot of cilia to help move the mucus (containing dirt and bacteria) away from the lungs
