what is the purpose of protein?
Protein is used for tissue growth. Athletes frequently use protein supplements in their diet and will consume protein immediately after training.
what percentage of intake is protein?
15–20%
what are some examples of protein?
Animal products such as meat and fish and plant products such as nuts, seeds, and lentils
what is the purpose of carbohydrates?
They are a source of energy. Divided into simple carbs – sugars and complex carbs – starch. need to consume large amounts before endurance events (carbo-loading)
what percentage of intake is carbohydrates?
55–60%
what are some examples of simple carbs?
Sugar glucose energy gels, etc
What are some examples of complex carbs?
bread, pasta, rice, potatoes etc
what is the purpose of fats?
They are a source of energy. Four types of fats –
Monounsaturated.
polyunsaturated
saturated
trans-fats
what percentage of intake are fats?
25-30%
what are some examples of monounsaturated fats?
olive oil and avocados
what are some examples of polyunsaturated fats?
oily fish, nuts and sunflower oil
what are some examples of saturated fats?
full fat dairy and fatty meats
what are some examples of trans-fats ?
many snack foods
what are the purpose of minerals?
They are essential for many processes, for example, bone growth and strength growth, nervous system, red blood cell production, immune system. Our body needs small amounts of minerals.
what are some examples of minerals in food?
calcium - milked, broccoli and canned fish
iron - watercress, brown rice, meat
zinc - shellfish, cheese, wheatgerm
potassium - fruit pulses , white meat
what is the purpose of vitamins?
They are essential for many processes such as bone growth, metabolic rate, immune system, vision, nervous system. Our body needs small amounts.
what are some examples of vitamin A?
Dairy, oily fish, yellow fruits
what are some examples of vitamin B?
Vegetables, whole-grain cereals
what are some examples of vitamin C?
Citrus fruits, broccoli, Brussels sprouts

Oily fish, eggs, fortified cereal

Where someone informs an athlete, what was correct about their performance?
What is an advantage of positive feedback?
It helps an athlete to decipher what was good about their technique
what is a disadvantage to positive feedback?
It doesn’t help an athlete to improve on their previous performance
what is negative feedback?
Used to inform an athlete, what was wrong about their performance?
