what is a balanced diet
it is a diet with the right amount of energy
all 7 kinds of food in the right proportions

children have more heat loss due to large surface area to volume ratio

pregnant woman need to support the growth of baby
breast-feeding women need more nutrients and energy for milk production

activity
labour worker has more physical activities than office worker
overnutrition
eating too much energy-rich food
e.g. energy intake is greater than energy expenditure
obesity
lead to high blood pressure, heart attack and diabetes
undernutrition
lack of protein in diet
kwashiorkor
low body weight
swollen abdomen
insufficient energy intake
i.e. energy intake is smaller than energy expenditure
anorexia nervosa
leads to osteoporosis, kidney damage
