How is a metaphor different from a simile?

A

A Metaphor is a statement of fact which is false, though emphasizes a larger truth that feels right.
E.g. The Elephant in the room. It’s raining cats and dogs. She broke his heart.

Similes make an open comparison, using the words “Like” or “as”
E.g. He was big as a house. Arms like treetrunks. She smelled like rain.

So, Metaphors makes a statement that is false while similes draw a comparison with words “Like” or “as”

All the worlds a stage (metaphor). The word is like a stage (Simile)
