DIC Flashcards
what are the signs and symptoms for DIC ?
if acute DIC
there is spontaneous bleeding
causing hypotension and shock
there is purpura rashes
shortness of breath.
digitial ischemia and gangrene
renal cortical necrosis = so there is kidney failure problems
adrenal infraction
what are the different classification of DIC and what are they caused by ?
there is acute
caused by septicemia and infection such as neisseria meningitis meningococcemia
amniotic fluid embolsim
======
chronic
cancer or liver diseases
how can we diagnose DIC ?
platelets counts are decreases (150-400k / ul)
PT is prolonged (intrisic pathway)
aPTT is prolonged (extrinsic pathway )
FDP = fibrin degredated products
increased
fibrinogen = decreased
antithrombin 3 = markedly decreased
protien C = markedly decreased
in peripheral blood smear we see shcistocytes
what is the treatment for DIC ?
treat the underlying problems
coagulation factor deficiency = fresh frozen plasma can be given
platelet transfusion
fibrinogen decreased = cryptopercipitate
when they produce serous clinical consequences such as ischemia = heparin is given ALWAYS MUST BE USED IN COMBINATION WITH REPLACMENT THERAPY MENTIONED ABOVE
======
in chronic cases low dose heparin or low mocleular weight heaprin is enough
