Where does the diaphragm attach?
Attaches anteriorly at the xiphoid process
Attaches posteriorly to the 12 rib
What is the direction of the fibers in the diaphragm?
Vertical
What is the function of the diaphragm?
Contracts inferiorly to increase the volume of the thorax
What are arcuate ligaments?
ligaments formed by muscles or structures passing through the diaphragm
What does the lateral arcuate ligament sit over?
Quadratus lumborum
What does the medial arcuate ligament sit over?
Psoas major
What does the median arcuate ligament sit over?
Allows the passage of the aorta at the T12 thoracic vertebral level

At what vertebral level does the abdominal part of the eosophagus pass through the diaphragm?
At the T10 vertebral level

What nerve innovates each side of the diaphragm?
Phrenic nerve
What arteries supply the diaphragm?
Superior phrenic arteries supply blood to top half
Inferior phrenic arteries suplly blood to lower half
