what are clinical manifestations of a diaper rash?
- redness in the diaper area that are found in moist areas of the skin
- peeling inflamed areas that bleed easily
- skin folds typically not involved
what are nursing interventions to help treat a diaper rash?
- clean with non-irritating cleansers such as regular soap and water
- expose area to air
- may not be from neglect but rather from allergic reaction to type of diaper
what skin barriers can be applied to help treat diaper rashs?
petroleum ointment, zinc oxide. or aluminum acetate solutions can be applied to skin and do no wash off the barrier with diaper changes
what is a complication of a diaper rash?
candidiasis which is a yeast infection found in moist areas such as diaper or mouth
what does candidiasis look like?
white exudate, purulent fluid coming from a peeling, inflamed, surface with some bleeding
what medications can be given to help treat candidiasis?
give antifungal medications such as a topical ointment known as nystatin
