what are clinical manifestations of acne?
A
- papules, pustules, nodules, and cysts
2. lesions that are either open (blackheads) or closed (whiteheads)

what medication is given to treat acne and what are important education points on it?
A
isotretinoin (accutane) is given for severe acne that is unresponsive to other forms of treatment. it is also teratogenic to the fetus so patient must use two forms of contraception when taking this medication

what are adverse effects of isotretinoin?
A
- dry skin/mucous membranes/lips/eyes
- headaches
- elevated cholesterol and triglycerides
- depression/suicidal ideation–> assess for suicide
