What is dialysis?
A
The patients blood is pumped into a circuit. The blood comes in contact with the dialysis fluid. The tube the stores the blood is a partially permeable membrane so that water, ions and urea can diffuse across but cells and proteins can’t. The dialysis fluid has the same concentration of water and other molecules as healthy blood. The dialysis fluid is constantly changed so that the process doesn’t reach equilibrium.
