DIAGNOSTICS (2) Flashcards
fetal heart rate - amniocentesis
what is the normal range of normal FHR?
120-160bpm
what can you use to hear the FHR at 10wks?
doppler
what can you use to hear the FHR at 10-11wks?
ultrasound
at what week can the mother feel “ quickening “ ?
18-20wks
at 28-38wks, the mom should be able to count at least how many kicks ?
10 x / hour. peaks in intensity
this is used for assessment of the fetal heart rate.
rhythm strip testing
what is the average fetal movement ?
twice every 10 mins.
a test used for acoustic sound stimulation.
vibroacoustic stimulation
this is applied to the mother’s abdomen to produce what?
- acoustic simulator
- sharp sound (80db.)
vibroacoustic stimulation is done to what?
- startle and wake the fetus up
what happens to the fetus while the mother is eating?
the fetus wakes up
this is the removal of fluid from the amniotic cavity by needle puncture.
amniocentesis
amnion for sac and kentesis for puncture is scheduled between what weeks?
14th & 16th week
during the amniocentesis, what should you monitor?
- monitor fetus using ultrasound to ensure its wellbeing.
what are the complications that may come with amniocentesis?
- hemorrhage from penetration of placenta
- infection of amniotic fluid
- puncture of fetus
what are the purposes of amniotic fluid analysis?
- detection of fetal abnormalities in early preg.
- determine fetal lung maturity / profile
- lecithin / sphingomyelin ratio
- amniotic fluid bilirubin
- Rh incompatibility
- chromosomal abnormality
what position should you assist your patient during amniocentesis?
supine position
what should you instruct the client before amniocentesis?
empty bladder
why should you put a rolled towel under right hip during amniocentesis?
to tip the body to the left, remove pressure of uterus on vena cava.
what should you instruct the client before insertion of needle during amniocentesis?
- not to take a deep breath, hold while being inserted.
- this will shift the uterus, needle may hit either placenta or fetus.
as the nurse on duty, what should you monitor before, during, and in 30mins after the amniocentesis?
monitor FHT
after the amniocentesis, what should you instruct your patient to observe?
- infection
- uterine cramping
- vaginal bleeding
