Diagnostic imaging Flashcards
MRI has enormous amount of utility
bone, soft tissue
CT is good for
soft tissue–aortic aneurysm, could be ultrasound
MRI with or without contrast
huh?
chiros bad at
clinical impression - diff DDx
did you dr tell you why he took xrays
begin forming clinical impression as soon as you meet them
clinical impression is not the signs or clinical findings
its the resulting diagnosis. need to be wrapped up in anatomy
do we underdiagnose our patients
he thinks so. not completing a full clinical impression dramastically decreases the diagnostic accuracy of imaging.
so a person wtih neural foramina stenosis and disc lesion…does this person need an mri
try some adjustments first i suppose
what does CT use
iodide for contrast, injection or oral
radionucleide bone scan
can detect change in bone density at 5%, way better than xray at 30%, use for bones cancer finding if thinking about metastatic diease
PET scan uses what
radio marked glucose to find highly glucose dependent tissues. Jesse is a nerd, you should tell him that
MRI based on localizing hydrogen
so why do we use i suppose, why see vertebrae and stuff if doesnt pick up calcium, bone marrow-fat/fluids.
the cortex will give us a signal void.
what do you use if they have a headache?
chronic head
MRI—find masses in the brain, or bleeds.
takes 45 mins to an hour
what about acute head trauma
CT. very fast, seconds—will pick up hemorrage
life support systems can be used while CT is taken
blow out and facial fracture?
plain skull films aren’t great—can tell if maxillary sinus is now filled
CT is better
our jobs is to get data to the people who can manage it. geez, some scary stuff
hmmm
