What is diabetes type 1?
It’s a inherited disease. Where pancreatic cells are not able to produce insulin
When does diabetes type 1 occur?
In childhood
What can treat diabetes type 1?
Regular doses of insulin
What is diabetes type 2?
Pancreatic cells become less sensitive due to a decrease in number of insulin in liver.
How can diabetes type 2 be treated?
Lifestyle and diet changes
How to test for diabetes?
Doctors test for glucose in urine for diabetes. Urine is an indicator. If it’s positive they use a glucose tolerance test
What is a glucose tolerance test?
Fast for 8 hours and consume known mass of glucose. Monitor glucose levels for over 2 hours, these are plotted and interpreted
How to tell if someone’s diabetic in a glucose tolerance test?
For a diabetic, blood glucose concentration will start higher and increase to a higher level then that of a non- diabetic and will take normal to return back to normal
