Criteria for DM diagnosis
A
Fasting Glucose > 126
Casual glucose > 200 with usual symptoms
Oral Glucose Tolerance test > 200 @ 2 Hours
HBA1C > 6.5%

Type 1 DM
A
Absolute insulin deficiency usually with acute onset.
Tendency to appear at younger age
Northern Europeans most affected.
Can occur due to autoimmune problem (Antibodies against islet cells, insulin, GAD)
Environmental stimuli (Virus, Cows Milk)

Type 2 DM
A
Dual Defect.
Evident later in life usually.
Strong Genetic Correlation (unlike Type 1)
More common in non-whites

Large Waist Circumference High Triglycerides Low HDL High BP High Fasting Glucose.
