Diabetes Flashcards
4 things occuring when the body thinks its starving from type 1 diabetes
increased gluconeogenesis
increased fatty acid oxidation
acetyl coa builds up
increased ketone body production
what is needed to diagnose metabolic syndromq
3 of waist circumference hdl cholesterol serum triglyceride serum glucose blood pressure
Normal pre diabetiic and diabetic aic
- 5-5.6
- 7-6.4
- 5 and above
4 effects of hyperglycemia
diabetic reinopathy
arherosclerosis
diabetic neuropathy
diabetic nephrophathy
8 parts of ominous octet
impaired insulin increased glucagon increased HGP neurotransmitter dysfunction dereased glucose upate increased glucose reabsorption increased lipolysis decreesed incretin effect
What does incretin do (GLP1)
Stimulates the pancreas to inhibit glucagon release and increase insulin release ( incr b cell proliferation
Also works on brain for fullness feeling and stomach for decreased gastric emptying
What therapudinc do we have relating to GLP 1
GLP analog sub in incretin
inibitors for blocking dpp4 (which is what inactives GLP-1)
What can you see with increased exercise
improved insulin sensitivity
decreased glucose levels
dec ldl tag and cholesterol
inc HDL
polymorphism and other risk factors for type 1 diabetes
HLA genes
PTPN
CTLA
Preproinsulin
viral triggers (rubella coxackie mumps) Associated w/ other immune conditions
