When should you use present tense (/present indicatif)?
- present obligation –> Je dois partir à 15h. – I must leave at 3pm.
- Present intent –> Le train doit arriver bientôt. - The train has to arrive soon.

When should you use imparfait?
- regular obligation –> Tu devais travailler - *You were supposed to work
- supposition (supposed to..) –> Le train devait arriver la nuit - The tran was supposed to arrive soon.
When should you use passe compose?
- past obligation –> Tu a dû travailler –> You had to work
- past prossibility (“must have”) –> Elles ont dû partir sans nous. – They must’ve left without us.
When should you use futur simple?
- future obligation –> Tu devras travailler - You will have to work.
When should you use conditionnel present?
- Advice/Suggestion –> Tu devrais manger plus. - You should eat more
When should you use conditionnel du passé
- regret/reproach –> Tu aurais du me téléphoner.

Quand vous serez au travail, vous ne devrez pas téléphoner à vos amis.
When you’re at work, you will not have to call you’re friends. (future obligation(or lack thereof))

Nous aurions dû prévenir les pompiers.
We should have notified the firefighters. (regret/reproach)
Le petit prince ne devrait pas quitter sa rose.
The little prince should not leave his rose. 🌹 (advise/suggestion)
He doesn’t know where his car is! It must have been stolen!
Il ne sait pas où est sa voiture! On a dû la voler! (past possibility)
We were supposed to finish our work now.
Nous devions finir notre travail maintenant. (supposition)
