The belief that we’re born as blank slates and rely on experiences to gain knowledge.
What are Piaget’s two processes of adaptation?
Assimilation; Accomodation
Assimilation (Piaget)
The process of interpreting new information in terms of existing schemata.
Accomodation (Piaget)
Occurs when new information doesn’t fit into existing schemata; schemata is modified to make it fit.
Zone of proximal development (Vygotsky)
Skills/abilities that have no yet been mastered but are in development.
What are the four basic components of language?
Phonology, semantics, syntax, preagmatics.
Phonology
Sound stem of language.
Semantics
The learning of word meanings.
Syntax
How words are put together to form sentences.
Pragmantics
Efficient use of language.
Holophrasis
A toddler’s use of a single word to express a complete thought.
