Q

What are the four different parenting styles?

A

Authoritative / Democratic parenting style
eg. When a child wants to go out for a party, the parents discuss the child’s reasons as well as the parents’ expectations for the child. In this style, children can be able to make decisions but the parents can still disapprove some actions made by the children.

Authoritarian parenting style
eg. Parents are like bosses. When a parent decides to move schools for their child without explaining why that is happening. The child is not allowed to question the parents’ decision.

Permissive parenting style
eg Where parents are not fully involved in the child’s life. No boundaries, rules or expectations are set to guide the children. Children get to have their own way.

Uninvolved parenting style
eg Where parents are the centre of the parenting of their children. They are not committed to their parenting responsibilities thus this makes them more distanced from their children.
