Developmental Flashcards
Two examples of developmental
Bandura
–children learn development through adults
36 boys and 36 girls from nurseries in Devon were split into 3 conditions; aggressive non aggressive and control. In the aggressive control there were 3 stages with the first one being exposed to aggressive behaviour by a role model hitting s bobo doll then in the 3rd stage they were observed through a one way mirror and a behavioural checklist. Showed that boys were more likely to repeat behaviour if done by a male role model
Samuel and Bryant
Looked at conservation through 252 boys and girls who were split into 4 groups depending on their age. All went through different task; standard, one judgement and fixed array with 3 different objects; mass, volume and number
–children found one judgement task easier
–significance in age e.g the older the easier
–fewest errors on the number task
Freud– little hans
Emotional development
Frued believs that all children pass through different psychosexual stages as they develop
Little hans was a five year old boy who had a phobia of white horses. Freud gained information via letters from his father from ages 3-5 and when hans was 19 he came to see Freud saying he did not believe in his results that little hans developed a fear of horses as a cover up of his fear and hatred of his father for he loved his mother (Oedipus complex)
Two strengths
Two weaknesses
+useful and longitudinal
-ethics and reductionist
Main assumption
Our behaviour is concerned with change and development over time. Such as changes within childhoods… Events that happene to us in early life can have a long term effect on the course of our development.
Another assumption = people that are he same age usually have more in common
