Data Flashcards
Strengths of quantitative data
.easy to analyse
.usually objective and more scientific therefore valid
Strengths of qualitative
.data can be rich and in detail - insightful therefore not reductionist
.data can help us understand people and why they behave the way they do
Weakness of quantitative
.reductionist
.will not know why a behaviour occurred
.numbers are often produced in isolation from interpretation (snapshot study)
Weakness of qualitative
.subjective– problem with interpretation
.harder to graph/analyse
.social desirable answers
Examples of research that uses quantitative data
.raine
.loftus
Examples of qualitative data
.thigpen and cleckley
.freud
