Development Overtime Flashcards
Social Approach
1) It Has:
- influenced by social changes/historical events eg led reaserch milgram
- therefore understnading developed eg obedience as there are social changes in attitudes that encourage more psychological research
2) However:
- burger - replicated - AO1
- therefore understanding has good R as strong similarity in behaviour despite developments in social attitudes
3) It has:
- eg ethics in burger improved eg AO1 - psych rather then stooge
- therefore methods in which experiments carried oit changed overtime
4) However:
- ethics didnt improve/change eg Burger - verbal prods reduced right to withdraw
- therefore methods havent changed - burger still unethical despite being 50yrs later then milgram
Cognitive Approach
It has:
- Bartletts original theory AO1, this led to research - R of eyewitness test
- therefore undertanding influenced cog interviews - leading Qs - influence legal field eg DNA needed now as EWT alone cannot convict
However:
- eg reasearch gathered simlar way - case studies eg HM, brain damage and animal studies
- therefore way its studied and data collection has not changed
Biological Approach
It has:
- brain structure can now be measured - scanning eg.. developed
- eg fmri - useful views mri couldnt see
- therefore tech developments allow scanning live working brain - come a long way from brain autopsies to understand structure
- however still much to do
Learning approach
Hasnt:
- eg knowledgee from theories same - principles of CC (AO1), OC (AO1), SLT(AO1)
- therefore key learning theories suggested by Pavlov and Bandura are the same theories being used to explain learnt behaviour in the present day
However:
- eg theory stays the same but area of human life apllied has altered
- eg baehaviour analysis - learning theory principles in practical context led to successful therapies eg CBT rather then ECT for ‘treat’
- therefore today, behaviourism is used more applied manner - moved to behaviour analysis to help inform the treatment of many psychological disorders
