Development of Heart, Mediastinum Flashcards
Binge drinking
Can inhibit neural crest migration
Lead to defects
Branches of aorta
Brachiocephalic trunk (right common carotid and subclavian)
Left common carotid
Left subclavian
Foramen ovale
Pre-birth
Allow right to left atrial flow
Ductus arteriosus
Pre-birth
Allows blood to bypass lung and enter systemic system for right to left flow
Trachea
Anterior to esophagus
Branches at T4-5
Right bronchus
Bigger and more vertical
Esophagus
Hiatus at T10
Phrenic nerves
Anterior to root of lung
External to pericardium
Phrenic referred pain
Diaphragm
Pericardium
Mediastinal Pleura
Right vagus
Rt side of trachea
Posterior to right brachiocephalic vein IFC
Left vagus
Lt side of aorta
Posterior to root of lung
Right recurrent laryngeal
Comes off vagus at T1
Right under right subclavian artery
Left recurrent laryngeal
Comes off vagus at T4-T5
Runs under aortic arch
Thoracic duct
Begins at L1-L2
Receives lymph and empties into left subclavian/internal jugular junction
Azygos system
Along right side of vertebral bodies
Connects SVC and IVC
Could have accessory hemiazygos on superior aspect left side of thoracic vertebrae
Hemiazygos on inferior aspect of left side of thoracic vertebrae
