Development and Ageing Flashcards
1
Q
What is the acute strength response to exercise in children? why?
A
limited strength development due to lack of sex hormones and due to the development of the neural system.
2
Q
What is the acute cardiovascular response to exercise in children? why?
A
- decreased cardiac output due to greater % of Q going to muscles
- increased HR to compensate for lower SV
- heart max higher
- increased a-VO2 difference due to blood going to muscles
3
Q
What is the acute respiratory response to exercise in children?
A
- decreased capacity and volumes due to smaller body size
4
Q
What is the acute endocrine response to exercise in children?
A
- GH, IGF, testosterone/oestrogen and catecholamines increase
- greater use of exogenous glucose due to lower muscle glycogen stores
5
Q
What is the acute anaerobic response to exercise in children? Why?
A
Limited
- lower glycolytic capacity due to lower PFK and LDH concentrations and decreased intramuscular glycogen
- lower lactate production
