- What types of positions you’re interested in – what industry do you want to work in, are you looking for a management position or something entry level?
- Where you want to work – are you looking to relocate, are you okay with commuting, do you want a fully remote position?

- Why you want to work – what motivates you at work? Are there specific companies that have a vision, set of business ethics, or overarching goals you share?

- The immediate goal of job seeking is usually to obtain a job interview with an employer which may lead to getting hired.

Tips for navigating the visible job market
- Utilize a variety of job boards (Asper Career Portal, Indeed, Workopolis, LinkedIn jobs, industry specific job boards, etc.)
- Enable alerts based on preferences
- Sign up to be on the email lists of job boards you want to be notified
- Be particular with the words you search. Know what you are
looking for and identify the associated key words. - Go beyond the job title – pay attention to the tasks that position will be responsible for (sometimes job titles don’t do the position justice)

* Networking can take place in a group or one-on-one setting.
Writing a pitch email
- Introduce yourself as an Asper Student and state:
- WHY you’re interested in their organization
- Why you think you would be an asset to them
- What type of work you think you could do for their organization, based on your research about them
- Attach your resume (no need to attach cover letter at this stage, your email will replace that)
