Developing an IS Flashcards
What is the meaning of Information System?
Is:
interacting components (people, procedures, technologies) that:
collect, process, store, and distribute information
support:
control, decision-making, and management in organizations
Why build ISs?
Solve problems, capture opportunities or comply with directives.
What are the steps of the General Process Model?
- Requirements
- Design
- Implementation
- Testing
Describe the Requirements Phase
Gather business requirements:
Users->who and how they use it.
Data->Input and output .
Business->Requisite logic, processes, and functions.

Describe the Testing Phase
Implementation is =,, requirements.
What is the question asked with verification?
Are we building the product right?
What is the question asked with validation?
Are we building the right product?
What is the SDLC and how does it differ from the General Process Model?
- Planning (feasibility and requirements)
- Analysis (data modeling)
- Design.
- Implementation (coding, testing).
- Maintenance.
SDLC talks more about the lifecycle of the Information system in the context of the organization. In a sense, it is broader than the general process model which deals primarily with the Planning, analysis, design. The implementation with the SDLC deals more the implementation of the IS into the organization.
