The main steps in the recruitment process
Identify the vacancy Write the job description Write the person specification Advertise the position, either internally or externally Receive and process applications Shortlist Interview Offer job.
What is a job description?
A summary of the main duties and responsibilities associated with an identified job.
What is a person specification?
Identifies the skills, knowledge and experience a successful applicant is likely to have.
What is internal recruitment?
Candidates from inside the business.
What is external recruitment?
Candidates from outside the organisation.
Advantages of internal recruitment?
Cheapest option
Can be used to motivate staff
Disadvantages of internal recruitment?
Another vacancy is created
Lack of ideas
Advantages of external recruitment?
Bigger choice of candidates
New ideas and perspectives.
Disadvantages of external recruitment?
Can be expensive
Can be time consuming
Training for the staff can be expensive.
What is methods of selection?
Ways in which the business recruits the best candidates for an identified vacancy. These can be internal or external to the organisation and will depend upon the time available, the budget available and the specialist skills available to the organisation.

What is training?
Giving employees the knowledge, skills and techniques necessary to fulfill the requirements of a job.
What is induction training?
Is given as an initial preparation upon taking up a post. Its goal is to help new employees reach the level of performance expected from an experienced worker.
What is off-the-job training?
Away from the place of work,e.g. at a training centre or college.
