Q

How does a 5.56mm round work?

A

On firing, the firing pin strikes boxer type primer
crushes the priming mixture against anvil
Priming comp ignites and flashes through to propellant in cart case igniting propellant.
Produces hot expanding gases which act on base of proj and drive it forward.
Spin is emparted as projectile engages in rifling in bore. spin provides stability in flight.

16
Q

What is SLAP-T used in?

A

M1A1 Abrams AIMTEST training barrel

17
Q

How does 12.7 NM140 work?

A

On impact the nose of each projectile is compressed and the incendiary ignited
 As the projectile passes through the target, pressure continues to build up within the nose and the incendiary composition ignites the high explosive
 Deflagration turns to detonation, producing blast and frag. The second incendiary charge then ignites and burns for approx. 1 second

18
Q

How is NM140 projectile secured to the cart case?

A

It’s secured by coning

19
Q

How is the .50 Cal ball secured to the cart case?

A

Knurled cannelure used for crimping

20
Q

How many pellets are in the 12g Super ranger no 5 shot?

A

248

21
Q

How many pellets are in the 12G super no 6 shot?

A

338

22
Q

What are the min and max range for 9mm paint fx?

A

2-200m

must wear PPE to mitigate injury

23
Q

What propellant is in Cart .50cal blank F3 single?

A

AP-70N- Double base

24
Q

What color is proj of Cart .50cal API M8?

A

From the tip to 16mm - silver

25
Q

What color is proj of Cart .50cal API-T M20?

A

Red 8mm from tip then 8mm-16mm silver

26
Q

What happens on impact of cart .50cal API-T M20?

A

On impact with target at high velocity, the incendiary comp ignites by adiabatic heating resulting in igniting any present flammable materials in the target area

27
Q

What are the differences between API m8 and API-T M20?

A

different propellants
m20 has tracer element
markings of the projectile

28
Q

What primer is in m855a1?

A

m41 boxer

29
Q

Explain m855a1 penetration

A

On impact with the target the strength of the steel nose combined with the mass of the copper alloy core, and the overall projectile velocity, provide a penetration capability.

30
Q

Operating limits for 7.62 x 51 lapua?

A

Rate of fire not greater than 5rpm
Max fire duration 4 mins
minimum 2min cool down with bolt open
max 100 rounds before complete weapon clean

31
Q

Tracer distance for 7.62mm m62

A

visible at 140m, burnt out approx 775m

32
Q

What is the use of the 12g bird frite?

A

Dispersal of birds from airfields

Used by RAN to control crews of vessels without lethal force

33
Q

what is the use of the Cart 12G M1013?

A

Disperse, dissuade and incapacitate rioters

34
Q

Why is 12g rifled slug rifled?

A

Optimum contact whilst reducing wear on barrel

Allows slug to pass through barrel without deformation
