Designs And Sampling Flashcards
Independent measures
Two groups one experimental one control one does the experimental condition and one doesn’t do the experimental condition they do a controlled condition then the results of the two groups are compared
Repeated measures
One group participants do both experimental and control conditions
Matched pairs
Independent measures but before the study begins participants are tested on this skill that’s involved during the test the scores of the tests of skills is compared with each participant and then each participant is then matched to somebody who scored similar them on the test this is so that both the experiment group and the control group are balanced in terms of skill and knowledge
Random sampling
The population have an equal chance of being selected for a study as they are chosen at random
Stratified sampling
Classify the populations into categories then choose samples in each of these categories in proportions the entire population of participants aka prescreening everybody into groups and then picking a certain amount of people from each of the groups
Volunteer sample
All consensing participants last used in milligrams 1963 study
Opportunity sampling
Taking a sample of people who are available at the time of the experiment and that fit the general criteria that you’re looking for
