Designing and Defining the solution Flashcards
What is Design thinking ?
An approach used for practical and creative problem solving, keeps the customers at the center of the design process
What are the stages of design thinking ?
Empathise
Define
Ideate
Prototype
Evaluate
Create
What does the Empathise stage involve and what techniques may be used
Understanding the needs of the customer
Investigative techniques, personas, empathy mapping and customer journey mapping
What does the Define stage involve and what techniques may be used
Framing the problem to be solved
Storytelling and problem framing; perspective analysis
What does the Define stage involve and what techniques may be used
Using divergent and convergent thinking processes to generate ideas
Brainstorming/writing; divergent and convergent thinking; mind mapping
What does the Protoyping stage involve and what techniques may be used
Building prototype to try out possible solutions
Prototyping and Scenario analysis
What does the Evaluate stage involve and what techniques may be used
Evaluating the prototypes, learn where they don’t work and refine them
Scenario and event analysis; reflective learning
What does the Create stage involve and what techniques may be used
Develop the selected solution and launch into operation
Experimentation, feedback and review
What is Divergent and Convergent thinking
Divergent thinking calls for generating as much information and as many ideas and solutions as possible.
A key element of design thinking is concerned with:
Enabling divergent and convergent thinking
What does the Double diamond represent
Double diamond represents the use of divergent and convergent thinking at two key points: When defining the challenge to be addressed and when developing the solution that will resolve the challenge and deliver the required outcome
What are the stages of Double diamond

Define

What is Gap analysis
Identifying the differences between the current and future business operating models, processes or systems
What techniques can be used for design thinking
These include customer experience analysis techniques, such as empathy
mapping and customer journey mapping, visualisation and experimentation techniques
such as prototyping, and idea generation techniques such as brainstorming and
divergent/convergent thinking. Together, they form a toolkit that helps the business
analyst to define and develop innovative solutions that are focused on offering value to
customers
