Squares (“iskwala”)
- Power driven coping saw, designed especially for cutting line curves and details for wood that is approximately 1” thick
Scroll saw or Jig Saw
- Cuts curves and straight lines in thin/thick stock
- Has and endless blade travelling round two pulleys
Band saw
- Focused on the craftsmanship
- It originated as an anti-industrial reaction and also stood for social economic reform
- wood with prominent grain, blocky shapes, rectilinear shape, exposed joints, clean but strong lines
Arts and Crafts
simplified classical motifs
innocuous style is recognizable through the use of simplified shapes, a mix of soft and smooth textures round furniture lines, soft curved lines, inviting soft textures
Classic Contemporary
Used for drilling small holes, usually not larger than 1/4”

- used for cutting curves in the wood, and not intended for cutting straight lines
Coping saw

- used for fitting joints in wood and for shaping edges

Country
- the most difficult to describe, it’s essentially a combination of all others
- vintage pieces, bright colors, pieces of all styles, contemporary off-beat items, mixed motifs, generous accessories
Eclectic
- style originated in the 1900s with the bauhaus movement
- form and function came together; produced a host of new materials including chrome, black leather, glass, ultrasuede
- natural forms of materials, lacquered finishes, simplified shapes, functionality, and ergonomic
Modern
- can be raised, lowered, turned, and tilled by hand, upside down saw with teethed circular saw
- motor and blade are suspended above
Radial arm saw
automatically surfaces the stock to thickness
Planer
designed for accurate, quick drilling of holes
