Q

How is accuracy affected by Small Scale production?

A

hand tools require lots of skill to use accurately
measuring tools can be used by the maker and adjustments made to every piece
inaccuracies can add beauty and character to a workpiece
each piece can be given greater individual attention which may improve accuracy

Q

How is accuracy affected by Large Scale production?

A

High accuracy tools and automation is cost effective so improves accuracy
computerised measuring devices are used reducing need for high skill workers
moulds and dies are replaced regularly to ensure high quality is continuous

Q

What is Scrum manufacturing? (agile manufacturing)

A

teams of workers are given specific goals with short timescales they must meet
this allows manufacturing to quickly respond to changes and problems
regular meetings and team updates are used to respond to problems immediately

Q

What is 6 Sigma ?

A

systems should aim to be reduce defects to a likelihood of outside of 6 standard deviations from the mean of a normal distribution ( fewer than 3.4 in a million)
done using the DMAIC stages
Define the issues
Measure the extent of the issue
Analysis where the issue will occur
Improve with rectification procedures
Control the modified procedure using quality control
