It should be located close to a built up area but not too close that noise pollution starts to become an issue for nearby residents.

It should have good parking facilities and access for those with less mobility.

It should be built with the sleeping area facing north and the run facing south.

It should both facilitate drying of the runs after cleaning and rinsing and prevent the sleeping compartment from overheating during the day.

What is a single barrack design?
A single barrack design consists of central covered service corridor from which the sleeping areas can be accessed and an outside area from which the runs can be accessed.
What are the advantages of a single barrack design?
The dogs are able to see each other.
Access to runs can be controlled individually.
What are the disadvantages of a single barrack design?
The type of bed used can be limited by the often long and narrow sleeping area.
What is a double barrack design?
A double barrack design is similar to a single barrack design only pens are placed on both sides of the central corridor rather than just on one.
What is a circular design?
A circular design is similar to a single and double barrack design except the pens radiate around a small round central service area rather than a long straight service area.
What are the advantages of a circular design?
Ideal for viewing for the public
