Desert Flashcards
Why desert are dry
The air that descends over them is very dry
It is dry bc most of the moisture has fallen as precipitation over the equator before being push out dang falling near the tropics
Air travel from equator to tropic travel over land -> no moisture pick up
No moisture in the air -> few cloud -> expose to high level of radiation from the sun -> day time temperature in the desert are high
Alot of heat is able to escape at night -> low temperature
Climate
Less than 250mm of rainfall a year
High diurnal range
Extremely dry, arid
Mostly found on the western edge of the continents bc the prevailing winds in tropical regions are off shore blowing from the east across land -> cannot pick up moisture from the sea
