What is central cord syndrome?
The most common injuury pattern that occurs with a hyperextension injury in a cervical spine with osteoarthrtisis. Causes paralysis of the arms more than the legs due to the corticospinal tracts of the upper limb being more central . Sacral sparing
What is an anterior cord syndrome?
Loss of motor function (corticospinal tracts) as well as a loss of coarse touch, pain and temperature sensation (spinothalamic tract) with the dorsal columns being intact
What is posterior cord syndrome?
Loss of dorsal colum function
What is brown sequard syndrome?
Results from hemisection of the cord usually from a penetrating injury. Ipsilateral paralysis and loss of dorsalc olumn sensation with contralateral loss of pain, temeperature and coarse touch.
