With a deep skin scrape you should have capillary bleeding

Is the woods lamp a definitive diagnosis?
No, there can be both false positives and negatives, always do a fungal culture
What can be detected with a trichogram?
- if alopecia is puritic or non-puritic
- Demmodex hanging on the hair shafts
- Fungal spores
What are the four ways that cytology’s are obtained?
- Rubbing or pressing the glass slide onto the skin
- Rolling cotton bud on skin or in the ears
- Acetate tape prep
- Fine needle aspirate
What is the best way to tell if you have found flea dirt?
Get it wet, flea dirt will be red or rust colored when wet. (It is flea poo or digested blood!)
When do dermatophytes produce a color change on the DTM culture?
7 days
When do contaminant fungi produce color change on a DTM culture?
10-14 days
How long do you hold a negative culture and why?
21 days because some dematophytes grow slowly
