What are you looking for in the distance exam?
- Habitus or general external appearance – odor, conformation, body
condition score (BCS) - Gait and posture‐how the animal stands and moves.
- Behavior‐the animal should be bright, alert and responsive
What are the parts of the hands on exam?
- TPR
- Head
- Neck
- Thorax
- Hind limbs
- Perineum, penis, mammae and tail
- Rectum
What lymph nodes can be palpated in the dog?
mandibular, superficial cervical, popliteal
What is normal CRT?
Less than 2 seconds
What is normal respiratory rate in a dog?
10-30 RPM
What is the normal respiratory rate in cat?
20-40 RPM
What is the normal temp in a small animal?
100.4-102.2 (Cats under stress can be a little higher)
What is the normal pulse in the dog?
60-120 BPM
What is the normal pulse in a cat
120-180 bpm
Were is the apex beat?
Mitral valve
How long do you auscultate each valve?
Two cycles
Where are the bronchial respiratory sounds heard most readily in the small animal?
Cranial aspects of the lung fields
