for secondary bacterial infections that can occur:
topical antibiotic- short term
referral to derm for long-term plan of care
Psoriasis
produces thick pruritic, scaly plaques on the skin
–plaque psoriasis:
–well defined areas of thickened, erythematous skin
—-with silvery, scaly patches,
usually with symmetric distribution
management of psoriasis
refer to derm for eval and plan of care (POC)
for people with plaques covering less than 5%of the body surface
-topical therapy may be sufficient
-treatment is rarely associated with ——–complete remission
—corticosteroids
—salicyclic acid
—moisturizers
for more severe cases:
UV light therapy
retinoids
methotrexate (Trexall)
cyclosporine-A (Neoral, Sandimmune)
biologic agents
Ongoing assessment of depression status and stressors
Counseling:
reduce stress
oatmeal baths
Urticaria
Urticaria is an immediate hypersensitivity reaction that occurs after exposure to an allergen or antigen.
