Dermalology Flashcards
Lupus vulgaris
Secondary to pulmonary TB
Scaling, erythematous, plaque-like rash on the extensor surfaces
Dermatitis herpetiformis
Often with COELIAC disease
Diffuse, symmetrical rash, extensors, excoriated/erythematous, papular and vesicular
Stevens-Johnson syndrome
‘Malignant’ erythema nodosum involves MUCOUS MEMBRANES + EYES
Herpes zoster virus
Dermatomal, vesicular rash
Reactivation rash –> treat with ACICYLOVIR
What is the difference between pemphigoid and pemphigus?
PemphigoiD = Dermis (not mucous mebranes) PemphiguS = Superficial vlisters (mucous mebranes)
Erythema nodosum
Painful, erythematous, tender rash mostly on ANTERIOR SHINS - lesions are ill-defined and can coalesce
Hodgkin’s, TB, EBV, Sarcoidosis, Streptococcus
Erythema multiforme
‘Target’ lesions, mostly peripheral
MUSSH
Mycoplasma, UC, SLE, Streptococcus, HSV
Pyoderma gangrenosum
Necrotising, ulcerating lesion that usually starts as papular and pustular areas –> form one necrotic ulcer
Wegener’s granulomatosis, Myelofibrosis, Waldenstrom’s, AnkSpond, UC
Prognostic factors of malignant melanoma
