MOA

  • affects all 4 of the pathophys mechanisms of acne (most effective medication for acne vulgaris)
    1. follicular hyerkeratinization
    2. increased sebum production
    3. Propionibacterium acne overgrowth
    4. inflammatory response

INDS
*severe or refractory acene/cystic

SE

  1. dry skin and lips—-MC
  2. dry eyes
  3. increased triglycerides and cholesterol
  4. arthalgias, myalgias,
  5. hepatits
  6. leukopenia
  7. premature long bone closure
  8. photosensitivity
  9. worsening of DM
  10. HA
  11. idiopathic intracranial HTN

Contra
***highly teratogenic–>get TWO preg tests b4 tx AND monthly while on tx–also PT needs two forms of BC during tx

*****due to teratogenic SE–>neeed to sign up for ipledge
