How did women gain more independance during the ww2
They made a big contribution to the war by working in factories and joining the military in non fighting jobs which helped them gain more independance
What was the WAVES
The WAVES were women who replaced US Navy officers and seamen who worked on shore by working in a wide range of jobs like radio operators, doctors and engineers
What was the WASPS
The WASPS were women pilots who flew Air Force planes which freed up male pilots to fight instead
What was the WAC
The WAC were women who worked in several jobs within the US army which allowed men to go and fight instead
What was the WLA
The WLA were women who volunteered to work on farms during the war
How did women benefiit during the ww2
Women replaced the men who were off to war and they earnt money but was less than men. They gained independance and had more freedom in their social lives
What was expected for women to behave at the end of the war
Women were expected to stop working and go back to their ‘domestic’ roles
What difficulties did women in the workforce face
Women were criticised for taking jobs away from men and suffered discrimination
What was the Executive order 8802 and why did Roosevelt sign it
This made it illegal to discrimnate against defence workers just because of their race. Roosevelt signed this as he did not want anything to get in the way of war effort
Why did many African Americans migrate to northern cities
They migrated to northern cities to find work in war industry. African Americans were paid more in north than south but still less than white people.
What 3 problems did African Americans migrating to northern cities cause
This caused racial tension in the war industry as many whites did not like competing with black people. There was shortages in housing so black people lived in poor conditions.The white people went on strike when black people were promoted.
Why did African American start to question whether they should take part in the ww2
They questioned why they should fight for freedom for europeans that Americans did not give them as they faced segregation and racial discrimination
What was the double victory
This campaign was set up by civil rights activist which the aim was to encourage african amercians to fight for their own rights in America and fight for democracy in europe
What was their main aim for the double victory
Their aim was to earn one victory for their enemies outside the country and to earn one victory for their enemies inside the country

This was the congress of racial inequality which was dedicated to non violent protest and protested against segregation in America
