Biologically based illness that affects: -thoughs -feelings -behaviour -physical health It is a mental illness

- complaints of physical pain changes (complaining for a minimum of two weeks)
- changes in thinking (confused,slow process, less memory, avoids decisions)
- changes in feelings(worthless, no emotions, impatient, angry)
- changes in behaviours (withdrawl, not going to usual activites)

Why are they most likely to be depressed?
A
- other illness
- medication
- chronic or severe pain
- living alone with no network
- recent death of loved one
- fear of death
- history of depression
- pas suicide attempts
- family history of depression

Treatment for depression:
A
- medication
- build a social support network
- talk therapy
- electroconculsive therapy (shocks)
- eating well
- exercise mind and body
