Depression Flashcards
NTs involve with depression
5-HT, NE
Cell bodies with depression - 5-HT
raphe nuclie in the brainstem and project throughout the forebrain, prefrontal cortex, cerebellum, and limbic system
Cell bodies with depression - NE
oringinate in the locus ceruleus and project throughout the forebrain, prefrontal cortex, cerebellum, and limbic system
Areas of the brain affected with depression
Hippocampus - memory impairment, feelings of worthlessness, hopelessness, and guilt
amygdala: anhedonia, anxiety, reduced motivations
hypothalamus: increased or decreased sleep and appetitie, decreased energy and libido
prefrontal cortex: depressed mood, problems with concentration
cerebellum: psychomotor retardation//agitation
Other limbic structures:
emotional alteration
NE reuptake inhibition results in
remors, cardiac arrhythmias, sexual dysfunction, and HTN
5-HT reuptake inhibition results in
GI disturbances, increased agitation, sexual dysfunction
DA reuptake inhibition reults in
psychomotor activation (EPS)
ACh blockage resutls in
dry mouth, blurred vision, constipation, and urinary retention
