Major depressive disorder
Persistent depressive disorder
Disruptive mood dysregulation disorder
Pre-menstrual dysphoric disorder
List the three behavioural categories of depression and examples
Activity levels- typical sufferers have reduced energy, leading to withdrawal from work, school etc
Disruption from sleep and eating behaviour- may experience insomnia, appetite may increase or decrease
Aggression and self harm- this can occur depending on the person
List the three emotional characteristics of depression and examples
Lowered mood- feeling worthless or empty etc
Anger- this can be directed at the self or others
Lowered self esteem- some depression sufferers experience self loathing
list the three cognitive characteristics of depression and examples
Poor concentration- find it hard to stick with a task they usually would or find it hard to make decisions
Attending to and dwelling on the negative- glass half empty not half full
Absolutist thinking- black and white thinking eg all is negative
