- May or may not be in females - will be smaller

- Occurs around 5 years of age

- Cups absent from all upper and lower incisors
- Occurs around 11-12 years of age

Aging Incisors
A
As the horse ages:
* angle between upper and lower incisors becomes more acute
* surface changes from rectangular to triangular
* Galvayne’s groove changes

Galvayne’s Groove

- 9-10: appears at gum margin
- 15: halfway down labial surface
- 20: extends entire labial surface
- 25: disappears from upper 1/2
- 30: completely gone

Enamel Points
A
- Develop on outer edges of upper molars and inner edges of lower molars
- Happens when incomplete overlap of upper and lower molars
- From uneven wear on biting / grinding surfaces when side-to-side chewing

Wolf Teeth
A
- Found in upper jaw in front of PM2
- Technically considered PM1
- Often interfere with the bit
- Remove around 2-3 years old if present

Young
* 24 teeth
* 12 incisors, 12 premolars
Adult
* males: 40-42 teeth
* females: 36-40 teeth
* difference is if canines present or not
