dentine hypersensitivity Flashcards
what is secondary dentine?
produced after tooth is fully formed
form slowly through out life
normally on floor and roof of pulpal chamber
what is tertiary dentine?
produced when dentine is in contact with a noxious stimulus- caries, NCTSL
what can be the cause of dentine hypersensitivity?
removal or enamel- NCTSL
denudation of root surface- gingival recession, perio disease and tx
what is branstrums theory of sensitivity?
dentinal tubules contain fluid
stimuli causes fluid movement
excited nerve fibres, causing pain
what tx re sensitivity?
occude tubules- potassium ions, potassium oxalate
insulative restorations
name desensitising agents
stannous fluoride
sodium monofluorophosphate
calcium hydroxidestrontium/potassium chloride
formaldehyde
name two resin adhesives used to block tubules
seal and protect
cervitec
