Q

Function of dendritic cells

A

capture microbes, digest their proteins
into fragments, express on their surface microbial peptides

also carry antigenic cargo to draining lymph nodes through which naive T lymphocytes are continuously recruited

Q

Differentiation of Dendritic Cells

A

They mature from myeloid lineage in the bone marrow, after which they differentiate into subsets

Classical DCs (the major one)
plasmacytoid DCs (pDCs)

Inflammatory DCs may mature from monocytes in inflamed tissues

a ) Pre-classical DC—> classical DC

b) Plasmacytoid DC —> Plasmacytoid DC
- —————-

monocyte —> inflammatory DC
