what is direct democracy ?
A
where people make decisions directly. for example, in the UK refurencums are a form of direct democracy

what is repesentative democracy?
A
repesentative democracy is where the electorate elect a person to repesent there interests on their behalf

What are the different models of representation?
A
1) Trustee -> Where our Mps will act according to waht they think is best for the country
2) Delegate -> Mps act based on whar the majority of there constituancy wants

What are the strenths of direct democracy?
A
- the purest form of democracy encourages participation
- increases representation
- gives the electorate more control over issues
- holds parlement accounible

what are the weaknesses of direct democracy?
A
- gives people who are less experienced the power to change a bill they don’t understand
- referendums are not legally binding -> could damage democracy as there is no legislation to hold the government accountable

What are the strengths of representative democracy?
A
- more practical for the electorate to get on with there life
-straight forward and understandable
-increses legitimacy because votes by the electorate are not legally binding

what is a weakness of representative democracy?
A
- Limits voters choise
- decreases participation because people will feel like they don’t have much of a say
-reduces political awareness - the quality of representation depends on the model used
