Dementia Flashcards
Treatment for frontotemporal dementia
Divalproex for behavior control
SSRIs for irritability, depression, and impulsive behavior
Treatment of AD
Cholingergic therapy–anticholinesterase
- Donepezil
- Rivastigmine
- Galantamine
–Increase ACh in synapse and slow progression of memory loss
NMDA receptor antagonists–Memantine
–excitability of neuron can cause damage in AD–so slow down that excitability with glutamate NMDA receptor blocker and decrease the neuronal damage
Treatment of neuropsychiatric disturbances seen with AD
1st approach is counseling
Antipsychotics –atypicals–risperidone and haloperidol
Antidepressants–sertraline and venlafaxine
Anxiolytics–busprione and lorazepam
Treatment of dementia with levy bodies
Cholinesterase inhibitors–may provide symptomatic support
AVOID antipsychotic drugs–will make parkinsonism sum worse
Treat REM sleep disorder with Clonazepam
