gaining power by escalating conflict
emotional immaturity
inability to cope with stress
offers a release from psychological pain
-replacing those feelings with physical pain

-learned behvaiour form friends or celebs, social media
reduced endorphin response to emotional arousal
neglect
physical, emotional and sexual abuse
conflicts, bullying
identity problems
low self esteem
conduct disorder, impuslivivity, substance misuse
acute managemnt of Deliberate self-harm 3
before psych intervention
-prioritise treating physical effects of DSH
adequate anaesthesia and/or analgesia
psychiatric assessment
CAHMS if <18
focus assessment on:
-inital risk management- immediate risk of suicide
-ongoing risks with subsequent Deliberate self-harm
relevant psych, medical and social history
patients with Deliberate self-harm discharing agaisnt medical advice
if have desire to leave before assessment:
-decide if there is diminished capacity and/or presence of significant mental illness
long term mangemnt of Deliberate self-harm 2
psychotherapy
-dialectical behaviour therapy- indiviudal an CBT
-emotion-regulation group therapy
