define adjustment disorder
emotional or behavioural reaction to a stressful event or change in a persons life

Denial: Shutting out reality to cope with overwhelming difficult feelings.
Anger: Can be angry with themselves, or with others, or at a higher power.
Bargaining: Hoping to avoid or undo grief through negotiation or promises.
Depression: Disconnect from people in an attempt to avoid further trauma.
Acceptance: Coming to terms with inevitable situation; create calm mind-set.
criteria for diagnosis of adjustment disorder 2
emotional or behviour syx within 3 months of event
≥1 of the following:
-marked distress out of proportion to the stressor
-syx significantly impair social or occupational function
common manifestations of adjustment disorder 3
depressed mood
anxiety
misconduct
treatment for adjustment disorder 2
self care
psychotherapy
limited evidence of use of antidepressants
overveiw of selfcare
crucial during and after a crisis or trauma
3 components:
-personal safety
-physical health
-mindfulness
